Last month, a team of First Names from Jersey put months of training to the test as they took on the London Marathon in aid of Headway Jersey, a local charity that provides essential support, information and services to those affected by brain injury.
Our remarkable runners joined celebrities, athletes and many others taking on the challenge and we are delighted to report that all six of the team finished in well under six hours, with times ranging from 05:39:28 to an incredible 03:05:00! Andrew, Matt, Katie, Vanessa, Greig and Emma did a fantastic job fundraising and we are thrilled to announce that the final total raised has smashed through the initial target of £15,000 and reached a fantastic total of £22,648.00!
The entirety of the money raised has been donated to Headway Jersey, which this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary of delivering its services to islanders. Their theme of the year is ‘overcoming the challenge’, and our runners in the London Marathon demonstrate a fine example of this. Our team of have been through months of physical training, fundraising, and understanding more about why Headway Jersey is so important to the lives of many on the island. Last week they also paid a rewarding visit to the Headway Centre in St Saviour to see the Headway team and meet some of its members.
In addition to the Headway team, three other First Names ran (and finished!) the marathon: Anna Tredant ran for Variety, Dio Freitas ran for Round Table Children’s Wish, and James Hayward qualified to run through the ‘Good for Age Entry' scheme. Congratulations everyone, you’ve done us proud!
